Reality to Virtuality

With our project, we wanted to tell a story, using the narrative form of the theatre and bringing it from reality to virtuality. Hereby, we tried to take a full advantage of fundamentally different conditions in virtual space.

We placed the viewer in the the middle of the happening and thus made him be surrounded 360° by the stage. The story evolves around him and he cannot interfere with the objects. Each viewer is the only viewer and through choosing his field of view, he has a unique experience each time. Although through exact staging of the plot we can direct his focus and view direction to follow the story.

The layers of the classical scenography are spread circularly around the viewer. Layer 1 is the stage podium, where the viewer can move. Layer 2 consists of the main characters. We took the concept of “Reality to Virtuality” very seriously, meaning the characters in our theatre where once real objects. Layer 3 represents the supporting objects - cacti as a part of the Garden Eden. Layer 4 & 5 form the forest. The inner one is changing each act, its colours were carefully chosen according to the story line. The outer one is slowly rotating. The latter represents the constant in our virtual theatre as it is included in the set from the start until the end of the play. Layer 6 is the background and also changes with the emotions and the happening. It goes to infinity, because there are no architectural boundaries in our virtual world.
